Different base types have specific advantages and disadvantages
Often called a skin base toupee, a thin skin hair system is essentially a thin piece of transparent plastic .It is made of polyurethane, also known as polyester or PU. Thin skin base is a type of pure polyurethane.
Ultra-Thin Skin (0.02-0.03mm): The thinnest, lightest option. It offers unparalleled realism, but has a shorter lifespan (approximately 1-2 months).
Ultra-Thin Skin (0.06mm - 0.08mm): A balance between natural look and durability (lasts approximately 2-3 months).
Thin (Poly) Skin (0.1mm - 0.12mm): A more durable option, poly thin skin base wig systems last 3-6 months. They are slightly thicker.
Silicone Skin (0.25mm): The most durable thin skin base, silicone hair units last approximately 6-12 months, but have a slightly less natural look.
A men's lace wig is a hair system that has netting material, usually made from French or Swiss lace, onto which hair is knotted. A French lace men's toupee is slightly more robust and longer-lasting than a Swiss lace toupee. A toupee lace base is one of the most breathable types of hair systems, great for men who experience a lot of sweat.
Both men's lace wigs have the advantage of good breathability, which is perfect for those who are worried about sweating on their wigs.
French lace is more durable, easier to remove and wash, and can be used for up to 5 months.
The advantage of Swiss lace wigs is that they are very natural and not easy to detect! However, they can be used for a shorter period of time.
Mono-filament (mono for short) looks similar to a lace hair system, except that lace is made out of fibrous material, mono uses a plastic material to create netting. Therefore it is even more sturdy than lace, whilst at the same time being very breathable, due to the holes in the netting.
A mono base toupee is often referred to as a mono top toupee, because mono is usually used on the top area (i.e. the crown), and not at the sides because it doesn't create a natural edge, unlike a lace or skin front.
