Tape Attaching Guide

Tape is fast and convenient to use. It offers simple attachment, removal and cleaning. Tape is available in variety of strengths giving you the flexibility to accurately control the duration of the hold.

BEFORE STARTING:

Make sure both surfaces to be bonded (scalp and system) are clean, dry and free of grease and oil. Remove any stubble/hair from the area of scalp to be bonded.

Please note that once you have finished attachment, you should avoid washing hair for 24 hours.

ITEMS REQUIRED:

* Scalp Protector
* Tape
* Eye Brow Pencil
* Hair Clip

INSTRUCTIONS:

STEP 1:
Apply a thin layer of Scalp Protector on the lace and on the scalp (in the areas where the tape will be).

STEP 2:
Remove the protective paper from one side of the double-sided tape and apply around the perimeter of your scalp, EXCEPT the front hairline. DO NOT apply tape to the front of your scalp (approx 1" back from the front hairline and temples).

STEP 3:
Remove the remaining protective paper.

STEP 4:
Position the front of the system in place and then roll the system back over the scalp, making sure that the hair does not get onto the tape.

STEP 5:
Secure the hair system to your scalp by pressing firmly on the taped areas and smooth it out so there are no wrinkles or folds.

STEP 6:
Using a light colored eyebrow pencil, trace the contour of the lace by making a few dots approx. 1/8" in front of the front edge of the lace.

STEP 7:
Now clip the lace front back, securing it to the top of your head with a hair clip.

STEP 8:
Place tape along the hairline you have just traced. Position the tape down to the dots, but do not cover the dots.

STEP 9:
Wipe the dots off your forehead.

STEP 10:
Gently bring the lace front forward over the tape. Using the flat edge of a comb, press the lace down.

STEP 11:
Simply brush to blend in with your own hair and you are finished.

TIPS:

1. Leave a small space between pieces of tape at the sides and back to allow for water and shampoo to escape if wearing your system for extended periods of time.
2. Spray a light mist of alcohol on the tape and to your scalp where the tape will be. This will allow you to align the system before the adhesive on the tape takes hold

Tape Bonding FAQ:

Which is better for securing a wig, tape or adhesive?

They both work very well and it really comes down to the customer's choice. Things to consider are how oily your scalp is and of course your lifestyle. Both tape and adhesive are medical grade and work great whether the customer wants to keep it in place for 2-4 weeks or 5-7 days.
Tape bonding is very simple and does not take much time to get used to, generally within a week you can become a qualified retail hairstylist. Adhesives hold longer and if you have a fairly active lifestyle this will be the best way to secure it. It is not much different from tape bonding except for the obvious point that it has a stronger hold, so wig bonding must be done correctly and with tender love and guidance.

Which side of the tape is attached to the base?

Both sides are double-sided tape and stick very well. The tear-off side is where the outer layer of tape is torn off and applied to the base of the wig. The long side will be torn off after the tape is attached to the skin. This is generally a written rule for all tape used on wigs.

Should I leave space between each strip of tape?

Yes, this is recommended for clients who have oily scalps and need their scalp to breathe extra. This really helps with shampooing and getting the cream out from under the base.

If you are taping around the base for added security, then when you shampoo, take a little extra time to rinse and make sure all the cream has been released from the hair system.

How long does a taped bond last?

This is a matter of personal preference. We have clients who wear a fully bonded wig for 4-5 weeks. Clients who choose to use tape wear their wigs daily for up to 7 days. If you have oily skin or sweat a lot, 2-5 days is ideal. If you have dry, cool skin, you can wear it longer. Keeping the wig clean and your scalp clean is very important for hygiene.

Where should I place my hairline and wig system?
This is very important. Generally, it should be 3-4 fingers above the eyebrows. Wig systems have improved a lot in the past few years, and it is easy to achieve a natural hairline. The natural hairline should start where your natural hairline begins. You should never place the front of a wig system on your frown line because it is too low and the hair will not grow naturally from there. Look in the mirror and get a feel for your head. By looking at your fingers with the naked eye you should be able to tell if they are on your forehead or at the front of your scalp. In general, the hairline is 3-4 fingers away from your eyebrows and not on your frown line.
